The Intempo Tower, Alicante has been constructed without enough space to accommodate a lift from the 20th to the 47th floor.
The building was originally designed to only be 20-storeys high but developers decided to increase the height without considering the necessary changes to the elevator dimensions when travelling over twice the distance.
A solution to this major issue has yet to be found.
The project has already experienced setbacks when the construction company went in to liquidation in 2009. An elevator onsite also fell, trapping 13 people inside. Ambulance crew were unable to get to the scene as there was no provision for vehicle access.
