A shelter in Vietnam

Last time we wrote about solid but affordable houses in Vietnam. This time there is another challenging project at a different  rural area. The idea is to improve crop yields and to provide people with better living conditions.

The international architecture JSC decided to design a shelter that  has about 16 sq. meters.  More than 3000 plastic bottles are used for constructing its roof.  The area of this new development  is affected yearly by many typhoons.  This pushed the designers to use bamboo, being a strong building material.  Otherwise, concrete pipe foundations are firmly buried underground.

The outstanding feature of  these buildings is their functionality.  It is supposed to protect more than 10,000 tomato plants per season and also provides a shelter and a resting area for the farmers. It is a multi- functional place.  Surprisingly it looks quite nice, especially at night, when lighted from the inside.  The structure resembles a wind sail with just the proper geometry.
