Is it really Banksy? New street art that shows government surveillance

Recent news raised the topic of privacy issues that were experienced in the past year with the NSA.  Possibly as a result of political conflict, a new street art appeared on Sunday night, on one of the house walls in Cheltenham. There is a long debate whether this new piece of art belongs to a well known British artist.

Graffiti website streetnews.net said Banksy had showed up in a maintenance van and covered all sides with tarpaulin before creating the piece. Karen Smith, the occupant of the house, agreed that she heard some noise during the night, but did not know what is going on outside of her rented accommodation. No surprisingly, the new street art quickly became a feature of the street attracting several visitors. For some people there is no doubt that a new art was created by Banksy due to a visible narrative style and execution. It seems it is no coincidence that this specific location was chosen as Cheltenham is the home of the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ). So far, despite ongoing discussion, Banksy did not officially confirm the news on his website.

Not for the first time did Banksy express his visions through street art. His recent work shows two lovers that are busier with their mobile phones than with each other.  It looks so real and fascinating. Should we agree that his views are linked to the impact of technology on society?

It happens that Banksy looks back at his work and creates a new piece of art based on the old concept. A perfect example of it would be a ‘Girl With a Balloon’ that was previously created to raise awareness concerning the conflict in Syria. The new art includes a headscarf that – when clicked – leads visitors to the page with the #WithSyria, which happens to be the official slogan of Amnesty International Campaign (Save the Children).  You can compare the pictures below and express your opinion.

It seems that the creativity and emotional feeling expressed through art became visible all over the world. In Berlin we can see paintings of beautiful woman covering the side of a giant building. It is visible from a nearby train line and was painted intentionally by an Australian artist: Rone. Do you know whose face is on the painting?

Some artists create a feeling of a secret world behind the walls. Artist John Pugh’s painted portions of blown out walls to reveal a whole new world. It looks amazing and so real! It is nearly as good as the real Egyptian palace entrance. You might hit the wall once you try to walk right through it for a closer exploration!
