Grand reopening of the Rijksmuseum

On Saturday 13th April, the world famous Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam was reopened by Queen Beatrix after 10 years of refurbishments.

The museum was redesigned by architects Cruz and Ortiz, with a joint venture between Arup, Royal Haskoning /Van Heugten and DGMR handling building services, building physics and lighting design.

The museum contains over 8,000 pieces showcasing the history of Dutch art.  The collection includes pieces from artists such as Rembrandt and Vermeer.

The museum is set to attract circa 2 million visitors per year, making it among the top visited museums worldwide.
