Swiss agency Publicis Zurich teamed up with the International Women’s Media Foundation to create an ATM that dispenses less money to men to raise awareness of gender inequality.
According to statistics, women’s earnings in the US were 77% of men’s in 2011. In Switzerland, women earn roughly 20% less than equally skilled men in comparable positions.
In order to high-light this inequality, the ATM purposely short-changed men by 20% and let them know why.
We love this idea as it really shocks people into awareness. It is a serious issue in liberal, progressive nations that pride themselves on equality.
It should be noted that no money was actually deducted from the men’s accounts, they just received less than they wanted.
