4 of the most unique Train Stations in Europe

Public transportation is for some a necessity. Waiting in a queue to catch a train or bus can become  a nightmare.  Each of us has probably used a bus or train at least once!

Times have changed and modern railway stations often become a way of expressing art. Still keeping its functionality. We have decided to list 5 of the best Train Stations in Europe that are worth looking at and enjoy the such characteristics.

King’s Cross ( London)

A beautiful Victorian structure that is very modern. York stone is used as the main building material.  There is space for everything – even one that is specially dedicated for art.  Glass, lighting and granite benches  all harmonize together.  Solar panels and rainwater recycling systems are just one of many environment friendly ideas.

King's Cross

Central Station,  Antwerp, Belgium

Iron, stone and marble composition created a unique view  for this train station. It offers much more than just an interchange.  A station shopping mall might not be a surprise these days,  but what about a diamond gallery with more than 30 diamond shops? That is a real shopping experience while waiting for a train.

Antwerp

Atocha Station, Madrid, Spain

For those who like to relax while waiting for a train without going out of the station, the spacious indoor botanical garden is the exact  place to have a coffee.  Perhaps several other  stations have trees and a garden access, but it is worth mentioning that Madrid’s railway was opened in 1851 and it still remains the biggest station in the city.

Atocha, Spain

Gare do Oriente ( Lisbon, Portugal)

The best view on this railway station is from the outside, where we can find the leaf-like roof made of steel.  It connects all corresponding platforms.  It is huge and modern and what is interesting – it can handle more passengers than New York Grand Central Station. It combines the bus, train and metro station.
